Already from the Middle Ages on, Passion Plays have been connected with the village Hořice na Šumavě, and even if that tradition more than once was forcibly discontinued – for the last time by the communist regime in the years 1949 to 1989 - it has been kept alive until today.
The performance follows the original(ly) popular religious plays and concentrates on the central Easter message – the suffering, the death and the resurrection of Jesus Christ. An impressive natural setting, the performance of the participants and enchanting music make the Play an one-of-a-kind experience. Some performances are even interpreted in sign language.
