Since 1931, the Tegelen Passion plays are being performed every 5 years on the Open air stage "De Doolhof" in Tegelen (NL). A group of about 350 amateurs performs for the whole summer, for approx. 2500 spectators. The suffering of Jesus Christ is shown in a wonderfully natural ambience. Tegelen has always tried to adapt the play to modern times. This is achieved by being open to new directors and new texts. Jesus’ story has to be performed in a nice and understandable way, adapted to modern times. This way, the Passion play wants to bring Jesus back to the people, in a time when less and less people know his story.
