Eppershausen Passion Play turns 20!

In 2006, the small town of Eppertshausen took a significant step in its cultural and artistic journey by staging its inaugural passion play. This historical and religious production captivated audiences with its depth and authenticity, setting the stage for an annual tradition that would flourish over the next two decades. With the involvement of around 250 volunteers, including 70 actors, five choirs, and an orchestra, the event gathered the community and inspired an atmosphere of passion and dedication.

The start: an Unforgettable Experience for the Audience

The first performance of the passion play lasted approximately three hours, leaving the audience enthralled and eager for more. The enthusiastic response from attendees highlighted not only the quality of the production but also the community spirit it inspired. It was clear that this was not just a one-time event; the passion play had struck a chord that resonated with the hearts of those present.

Establishing a Lasting Tradition

Encouraged by the overwhelming success of the initial performance, the organizers committed to making the passion play a recurring event to be held every three years.

As we mark the 20th anniversary of this tradition, it is essential to reflect on how the passion plays have transformed Eppertshausen over the years. To do so, a photo exhibition has been organised and opened on the 8th of May 2026 at the Town Hall: a celebration of art, community, and faith. It has been a journey of dedication, resilience, and love, ensuring that this exceptional tradition continues to thrive for many more years to come.
