Celebrating 33 Years of Passion Plays in Hořice

Marking the Anniversary

On June 6, 2026, the beautiful town of Hořice na Šumavě celebrated an important milestone: the 33rd anniversary of the revival of the passion plays. This annual event draws attention not only for its historical significance but also for the vibrant community spirit it fosters.

A Solemn Ceremony

The festivities kicked off with a solemn mass, celebrated at 6:00 p.m. by Prelate Václav Pícha, M.A., J.C.D., of Český Krumlov. The mass was attended by several distinguished guests, including Miroslav Kutlák of the Society for the Preservation of the Hořice Passion Plays and Martin Madej, the Mayor of Hořice na Šumavě. Among the notable attendees was Marcin Caban, Vice President of Europassion, who represented President Thomas Hummel during the event.

A Memorable Performance

Following the mass, at 8:30 p.m., the passion play was performed, highlighting the rich tradition and cultural heritage of the region. During the performance, Marcin Caban had the honor of reading a letter addressed to the troupe in Hořice from President Thomas Hummel, reaffirming support and appreciation for the continued efforts to sustain this cherished tradition.

Reflecting on his experience, Marcin Caban expressed heartfelt gratitude for the warm hospitality extended to him and his wife by the people of Hořice. They enjoyed a memorable visit filled with friendship, culminating in an outstanding performance that will stay in their memories forever. In a touching gesture, Miroslav and Mayor Madej presented Marcin with a commemorative anniversary medal as a token of appreciation, underscoring the significance of the event and the bonds created during this celebration.
